Blogmas Day 12: Dealing with Christmas Food Guilt

Hi! Welcome to Blogmas day TWELVE! I can’t believe it’s the last of the 12 days of Blogmas! This also will be my last post of 2019, which is even crazier!

Christmas is always such a fun time filled with family and great food, but with that can come some guilt. I sometimes catch myself feeling bad about indulging during the holidays but I’ve come to realize that it is such a waste of time!

A Christmas dessert is way more than just sugar and calories. It’s a conversation with loved ones that you haven’t seen in a while. Christmas is a time for joy and laughter, not stressing over whether or not you should eat a second helping of your favorite part of Christmas dinner. Today I’m sharing 3 tips for dealing with food guilt during Christmas. Enjoy!

1. LISTEN TO YOUR STOMACH’S CUES

I’m a big fan of indulging on Christmas. Christmas cookies are one of my favorite things in the world, and I look forward to making and eating them all year! One thing I try to do is listen to my body’s cues. While, yes, I will indulge and eat more than I usually do on a given day, I still make sure to check in with myself and not eat so much I feel completely sick. Eating enough good food to make myself happy but not so much that I feel like I need to vomit really helps to not bring on any guilty feelings.

2. DRINK YOUR WATER

Water is a magical thing. Whenever I feel gross and bloated from eating a lot, water really comes in and saves the day. It helps to flush out your body and keeps you hydrated while you eat foods that probably have a lot of sodium in them. Drinking a lot of water is especially helpful if you’re consuming alcohol because it’ll help keep you from getting sloppy at a family Christmas dinner which is a big no-no.

3. GET BACK INTO YOUR NORMAL ROUTINE AFTERWARDS

Just because you are eating a lot of unhealthy food on Christmas Eve and Christmas doesn’t mean that you have to continue eating like crap the rest of the time. Once the holiday is over, just hop back into your usual routine and all will be well! You DO NOT need to compensate for the holiday by excessively going to the gym or trying some trendy cleanse. Your body is really good at bouncing back on its own, and simply getting back into your normal routine will be plenty to get you feeling good again.


Always remember that indulging during this time of year is so normal, and there’s no need to feel guilty. It can be hard to ignore these thoughts that pop into your head, but if you do it’ll make enjoying this holiday so much easier.
