How to Have a Productive Morning

Lately I’ve been trying to perfect my morning routine to get myself started on the right foot. I absolutely love setting myself up for success in the morning, that way I don’t feel as overwhelmed getting things done throughout the day. As a senior in college, I always have a lot of work to get done while still managing getting to class and having a social life, so kick starting my productivity the second my day begins is what I love to do.

Today I’m going to share with you my top tips for having a productive morning that sets you up for success throughout the day! If you change up your morning routine my implementing any of these tips, be sure to let me know, I’d love to hear about it!

1. HAVE YOUR OUTFIT PICKED OUT THE NIGHT BEFORE

If you want to get productive right away in the morning, choosing your clothes is going to take up a chunk of your time. If you plan out your outfit the night before, you’ll be ready to pop out of bed and immediately get dressed in something you know you like! This tip also works for those not so productive mornings when you need to get out of bed and get to class ASAP. Getting into this habit will save you more time in the morning which allows you to get started with your day that much sooner.

2. CREATE YOUR TO-DO LIST WHILE YOU EAT BREAKFAST

You can kill two birds with one stone here! While you sit down to eat breakfast, instead of scrolling through social media the whole time take a few of those minutes to set up your day with a little to-do list. This gets you in the mindset to tackle everything you need to, and will help to keep you on track throughout the day so you’re not guessing about what you need to get done.

3. GET A SWEAT SESH IN

This one is a new habit I developed over the summer. For the longest time I was an afternoon/evening gym gal. Now, I go in the morning before I do anything else and I love it. It gets me up and out of my apartment each morning and gets my day started on a good foot. I typically wake up around 8 am, head to the gym at 8:30, then come home, shower, eat breakfast, and head to class! It makes me feel way more accomplished when I head to my first class knowing I’ve already knocked something off my list for the day. If you can get into the habit of morning gym sessions, it seriously is one of the best ways to kick start your day.

4. WAKE UP AT THE SAME TIME EACH DAY

It’s really good to get into the habit of waking up at the same time every day (or roughly the same time). If you’re used to waking up at the same time each day, you’ll be less groggy in the morning since you’ll get used to it! You don’t have to wake up at 5am every day, especially if you do not function that early in the morning. Just find your personal sweet spot and stick with it! I wake up around 8 am every day (sometimes early for gym classes, and I sleep in on the weekends of course) and it has made my days so much better. My body is used to waking up around this time so I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to get my day started!

5. DRINK YOUR WATER

In the morning, be sure to grab your water bottle and start drinking water as soon as possible. Since you were asleep, your body has gone hours without water and you probably will be a little dehydrated or thirsty. Grab some water and start chugging! If you drink caffeinated drinks like coffee or tea in the morning, be sure to also have a glass of water with it since caffeine is dehydrating! Getting a head start on your water intake right away in the morning will get you on the right track to stay on during the day.
