What’s Wrong with the “Perfect Body”

Hey howdy hey! Welcome back to my blog!

Today I wanted to write about something I’ve been thinking about a lot recently, and that’s this idea of a “perfect body.” With the summer now here, you constantly see and hear about a “bikini body” and trying to get a body that’s ready for the beach. What even is a bikini body? Why do I need to aspire to it?

I took to Instagram to ask you guys your thoughts on the “perfect body.”

The first thing I asked was: What comes to mind when you think of the perfect body? Here are some answers that I got:

Fit, tan and skinny

Slightly athletic build

Thin waist and torso with curvy hips

Thin but with curves and a big butt and big boobs

Confidence

All bodies

A body you are happy with

Most answers had a similar theme of a body that’s athletic and both thin and curvy at the same time. I feel like we focus so much on this body type. Those with it are praised and those without it are put down.

When asked, “do you feel as though you have a perfect body?” 97% voted no.

When asked, “is there such thing as a perfect body?” 93% voted no.

Ninety-seven percent of people said that they don’t think they have a perfect body. Ninety-seven! I know that if I were the one being asked, I would also fall in the 97%. I don’t feel as though I have a perfect body. I think of the same fit and thin-but-curvy ideal and I know that I don’t and never will look like that. But that’s okay.

There really is no such thing as a “perfect body.” Nothing is ever perfect. What is imperfect is what makes life beautiful. I’m glad that 93% of those who answered my Instagram poll also believe there’s no such thing as a perfect body.

Instead of focusing on how our body looks and what we would change, why not focus on how our body feels and what our body can do instead. Don’t worry about your thighs that you feel are too big. Think about how those thighs help you run and dance and hike.

You know how to get a bikini body? Take your clothes off, put on a bikini, and go outside. Boom. Easy.

It’s time we stop aspiring to a “perfect body.” It’s time we celebrate our bodies for what they are and fuel them with nutritious foods and lots of love. Life is too short to hate your body, so let’s stop wasting our time.

  1. Did you know…. a standard Barbie doll’s “to scale” measurements would make her 5 feet 9 inches tall with a 36″ chest, an 18″ waist, and 33 inch hips.. This is what we grew up with….
