Winter Skin Care

Hi! Welcome to Blogmas Day 4!

Let’s talk about all things skin. The winter is the worst time of year for my skin. Everything dries out and requires some extra TLC. Here are 5 tips for keeping your skin healthy and hydrated during Winter!

1. DRINK A LOT OF WATER

Since the cold air dries out your skin, staying hydrated is very important. Just because it’s no longer the summer doesn’t mean you should stop drinking a lot of water! Keep drinking water (typically 64 ounces a day is recommended) to keep your body and skin hydrated.

2. MOISTURIZE MORNING AND NIGHT

Sometimes in the summer, I can get away with moisturizing only at night. In the winter, I definitely can’t. Drinking water helps to hydrate the skin from the inside, and moisturizer helps to hydrate the skin from the outside. Be sure to not skip out on moisturizer!

3. DON’T USE PRODUCTS THAT ARE TOO STRONG

When I was in high school, I used a face wash that had a ridiculous percentage of benzoyl peroxide to try and get rid of acne (spoiler alert: it just made things worse.) This completely dried out my skin and it was not good. Especially during winter months, try to use more gentle products so you don’t dry out your skin any further.

4. COCOA BUTTER

Regular chapstick just doesn’t always cut it in Winter for me. I usually start to turn to slightly more heavy duty lip products to help stop chapped lips. One product I’ve been using a lot lately is Vaseline Cocoa Butter Lip Therapy. It works to help heal and prevent dry lips and it’s great!

5. LOTION + GLOVES (OR SOCKS)

In the winter, the skin on my hands gets so bad it sometimes cracks. Ew. To help with that, I’ll usually cover my hands with lotion and then put gloves on before I go to bed. This helps to seal in the moisture and stop it from rubbing off onto your sheets when you sleep. You can also do this on your feet and put socks on before bed as well! When you wake up your skin will be so soft and hydrated.

If you follow these 5 tips you’ll be well prepared to keep your skin healthy during the harsh Winter months! If you have any other skin care tips for the colder months, leave it in a comment below!
