Hi, welcome back to my blog!
Last weekend I took Friday off of work, packed my bags, and took a mini vacation to the White Mountains! I wanted to share with you a little travel diary of my weekend in New Hampshire. Enjoy!
We woke up bright and early Friday morning (even though my boyfriend Mitchell’s plane didn’t get into RI until midnight Thursday night) and hopped in the car. We got a small cabin on Airbnb which was located in Twin Mountain, New Hampshire. When we finally made it to New Hampshire, our first destination was the Kancamangus Highway. Mitchell had never been to New Hampshire, so we made sure to stop at every lookout along the way. There we got really great views of the mountains!
After that, we pulled off to the side of the road at Otter Rocks to stick our feet in the water and walk a bit since we had been in the car for so long. The water was absolutely freezing as per usual, but it was still fun to walk on the rocks! Following that, we took a ride from Lincoln over to Littleton, to visit my favorite candy store: Chutters. This store is home to the longest candy counter in the world! We filled bags with our favorites candies, grabbed a free sample of fudge, and headed out to explore the town of Littleton. It was such a cute, whimsical town!
And yes, I did change my shorts mid day! I got these adorable gingham shorts at Nordstrom Rack! Find them here!
After Littleton, we went to Twin Mountain, where our cabin was and settled in. We drove around the area, and went to a small Italian restaurant for dinner, which was so good!
Saturday was the day we had all been waiting for: the day we had planned to climb Mount Washington. I plan on writing a separate post on the hike so I won’t be getting too in depth right now.
We woke up around 6 am and headed out to get breakfast. We found ourselves at this adorable little restaurant near our cabin called Monroe’s Family Restaurant. Since we were about to go on the hike of a lifetime, I got a huge combo plate and it was so good.
After that, we headed to the Amanoosuc Ravine Trailhead and hiked all the way up to the summit of Mount Washington! It was a very steep trail, it started off fairly easy for the first mile but then after that, it was straight up for the following 3.5 miles. And yes, I had to climb up those rocks after I took that picture:
When we finally made it to the top, we immediately booked tickets for the Cog Railway because we were so beat we knew we wouldn’t be able to handle another 4-hour hike back down the mountain. But, we made it to the summit which is an amazing feat!
Once we made it back down to the bottom, we went back to the cabin, took showers, and got ready for a victory dinner! We went over to Lincoln, and had dinner at Gordi’s Fish and Steak, which we went to the last time we were in New Hampshire!
Sunday was our travel day back to Rhode Island. We woke up early and got breakfast again at Monroe’s because we enjoyed it so much the day before and because there honestly really wasn’t much else in the area. After breakfast, we reluctantly got in the car and drove the three hours back home.
Last weekend was definitely one for the books! I always love visiting New Hampshire, especially the White Mountains.
Have you ever been to New Hampshire? What’s your favorite place to go when visiting?
