How To Rock Your Finals

So, finals week is coming up soon…how scary is that? Today I thought I would share with you some tips and tricks to get through finals! Studying can be annoying, frustrating, and tiring, but it’s also really important and worthwhile. So, here are some of my tips that will help you ace those tests!

1.  Take study breaks

Sitting down for hours and studying as much as you can seem like the best option, but it’s actually not. Try studying for 25-30 minutes, then take a 5-minute break. Just make sure to set a timer so your 5 minutes doesn’t turn into an hour!

2. Write things out

So many people take notes on their computers, but there have actually been studies that say writing things by hand actually help you remember the information more. This reminds me of when I was a kid studying vocab words; I would write the word and definition over and over on my whiteboard until I didn’t have to look at my paper. So, grab a pen and paper or a whiteboard and marker and start writing out information you need to know!

3. Quizzes

Making a quiz for yourself, or quizzing a friend in your class is super helpful. For me, I like to look at the material and hear it, so looking at a study guide and then quizzing my friend by asking questions out loud is a great way for me to study. Another great way to use quizzes is to take it before you study and take it again afterward, that way you can track your progress and really see what needs the most attention.

4. Read over the material before you go to bed

Reading your notes and then going to bed can be beneficial since sleep allows the brain to strengthen memories. Just make sure to leave the notes at your desk, because reading them while literally in bed might make it harder for you to fall asleep.

5. Sleep

Staying up really late the night before your exam is not a good idea. Making sure you get enough rest the night before and eat a good breakfast the morning of your exam will help you feel more alert and ready to ace that final!

The biggest thing I can say is to make sure you know what works best for you. If you’re a visual learner, don’t talk about the information to study, because that won’t help. It may take some time, but once you know your best study methods, no exam will be too hard for you!

And always remember, finals week may be awful, but there’s a beautiful summer light at the end of the tunnel!
