17 Goals for 2017

2017 is in two days. TWO DAYS! Today, I wanted to share some goals I’ve come up with for the new year. 17, to be exact. I want to try my hardest to make this year as great as it possibly can, and that starts with this list. I’m determined to integrate/complete these goals throughout the entire 2017, not just the very beginning. So, here are my 17 goals
I have for 2017!

1. Start a memory jar

I’ve seen these all over the internet, and my good friend has one each year. Basically, you start with an empty jar on January 1st, and each day or week, you write good things that have happened to you. Then, on New Year’s Eve, you open it and read about all the positive things that you experienced throughout the year! It seems like a fun, creative thing to do so I plan on trying it out this year.

2. Cleanse the closet

I have so many clothes that I swear I’ll wear at some point that are just taking up space in my closet. This year I want to finally go through and downsize the amount of clothes I own. I plan on donating everything I get rid of, which brings me to my next goal.

3. Do more good

I want to do more good deeds this year, whether it’s paying for someone behind me in a drive through line, buying and making care packages to give to people in need, or simply helping out a friend. I want to do something good just for the sake of being a good person, expecting nothing in return.

4. Try new things

I feel like this one’s pretty self explanatory, but I want to make this year as rewarding as it possibly can, which starts with trying something new.

5. Read more

I haven’t had much time to sit down and read something other than assignments for classes, but this year I want to make time for it. I’ve just picked up two new books to read and I’m very excited!

6. Bullet journaling

This past month I discovered the art of bullet journaling, and to say I was intrigued would be an understatement. It’s basically a lot of lists, and it keeps you organized. I already enjoy keeping a journal, so I want to try and integrate some aspects of bullet journaling and learn more about it. Here is a blog all about the bullet journal technique.

7. Really get organized

This one’s related to the bullet journal, since that’s one step towards a new, organized Mackenzie. I’ve become more organized ever since starting school this year, but I want to organize my life EVEN MORE.

8. Spend less money

I’ve always been fairly aware of the money I spend, but now that I’m at school and don’t have the cushion of a small part time job income, I need to make sure I’m not spending too much money. I plan on creating a budget for myself and keeping a log of how much I’m spending, how often, and where.

9. Stop worrying

When one thing goes wrong, I tend to shut down and worry so much about it to the point that I drive myself mad. I want to learn how to take a step back and assess my situation before reacting, so that way I worry less and can focus on more important things in my life.

10. Take more pictures

Lately I’ve realized that I really don’t have any pictures of just me. I also just don’t have many pictures in general that are actual good quality pictures and not random things saved from Snapchat. I want to take more pictures so that when I look back on different events, I’ll have an actual thing to look at.

11. Waste less time

I find myself constantly sitting around, refreshing the same social media apps for hours, doing absolutely nothing productive with my time. If I limit the amount of time I spend on my phone, who knows the things I can accomplish!

12. Don’t put so much effort into one sided relationships

You know when you feel like you try so hard to keep ties without someone who seems like they could care less? I do this. A lot. But this year I’ve decided enough is enough. While it is good to continue to try and reach out to people, I’m not going to try as hard as I usually do, because quite simply it’s exhausting. And usually just ends up making me sad.

13. Learn more about politics

This past election made me much more interested in politics, since it was the first time I could vote! I learned that I really don’t know much about politics, and I really want to. I want to spend some of my free time, most likely during the summer, to educate myself on American politics and current events.

14. Paint

I recently got a stack of canvases and new paints and I am so excited! I forgot how relaxing painting is for me and I want to get back into it. Now that I have new materials, I’m ready to start things up again.

15. Take a social media break

I’ve seen videos on Buzzfeed and Refinery29 of people giving up social media for a week, and I feel like I should try it. I want to give myself a week free of social media and really focus on my experiences. I’m not sure when exactly I’ll do it, but I definitely want to, and possibly write a post about the experience!

16. Drink more water

I’m pretty sure the average woman should drink around 8-9 cups of water a day, and I do not reach that at all. I want to make sure I’m drinking enough water each day and as often as I should, because it is so beneficial for my body.

17. Build this blog

This year I plan to write, write, and, oh yeah! WRITE. I want to add as much content as I can this year, simply because I enjoy writing. I hope to create a posting schedule for here very soon and I am very excited.

So that’s it. 17 goals for 2017. If I stick to these all year, 2017 might just be the best yet! What goals have you made for the new year?

With love

Mackenzie
